Hi! I’m Danielle and I live in Central Florida with my husband, 4 year old son, and orange tabby cat, Thomas O’Malley (The Alley Cat).
At the ripe old age (kidding) of 30, I decided it was high time I gave in to the nerdy callings from my subconscious. I grew up with a Trekkie dad and despite the audible groans of protest, I often sat with him while he watched endless episodes of Deep Space Nine. I was always afraid to like anything nerdy because I saw how kids picked on my brother because they thought he was a nerd (he was into ZERO stereotypical nerdy things) and I didn’t want the same to happen to me. So thanks to fear and my own sense of stubbornness, I had avoided the world of nerd, until now.
I dipped my toe into the waters (or matter) of space by starting with Firefly. I am now a Browncoat for life thanks to the goodness of Whedon. I’m slowly but surely making my way through classics like Star Wars (OBSESSED), new goodies like the Avengers movies, and all things in between. Some things I’ve always loved like Disney, yet never knew they could be considered nerdy, have taken a new life for me as I really, REALLY embrace the fandom. Who knew having a passion for something and letting the world know about it could be so exhilarating and fun?
From Girlie to Nerdy is a blog documenting my adventures into the culture and world of nerd. My husband is a geek at heart and I can tell my son will be as well, so might as well make our house a trifecta of geeky goodness. I hope you enjoy reading along as I chronicle my journey to embracing the nerdy.
