Hi, everyone! Ok, ok, so I know this time last year I said I was back after having a baby, but as evidenced by the quiet on my little space on the Internet, life with a baby took over. Now that my baby is one, I finally feel truly ready to tap back into sharing all of my favorite nerdy treats, crafts, outfits, and more with you. To start, I’m so excited to review the fourth book in one of my absolute favorite series: Warlock Holmes: The Sign of Nine (which I so generously received from the lovely folks at Titan Books).
Warlock Holmes may have demons in his head, but now Dr. John Watson has a mummy in his bloodstream. Specifically that of the sorcerer Xantharaxes, who when shredded and dissolved in an 8% solution, results in some extremely odd but useful prophetic dreams. There’s also the small matter of Watson falling for yet another damsel-du-jour, and Warlock deciding that his companion needs some domestic bliss…
Warlock Holmes: The Sign of Nine Review
Four years in and I still cannot get enough of this series. In Warlock Holmes: The Sign of Nine we again get to ride along with our two favorite detectives as they solve more otherworldly mysteries. In this novel, we see a different side of Watson as he deals with his growing addiction to mummy in his blood. Our dear Watson is so taken by The Woman, aka Irene Adler, and realizes that with his mystical drug usage (aka mummy remains) he has prophetic dreams about both her and Moriarty. He simply can’t get enough of these dreams and it causes trouble for both Watson and his continued relationship with Holmes.
Holmes is, as always, an absolute delight. He’s ridiculously hilarious and, despite housing demons in his mind, is endearing and has a real soft spot for those that have been wronged. Although he isn’t really the one to solve the mysteries, we often forget just how wise our dear Holmes really is.
I simply cannot wait until I can get my hands on the next book in the series. The Sign of Nine left on a bit of a cliffhanger and feels a bit like a Part 1, so I’m ready for Part 2. There were quite a few things left unanswered, but that’s what makes the wait for the next book more fun. If you’re looking for a mystical and funny summer read, be sure to grab a copy and enjoy!
