The Florida Comic Con season is upon us. This will be my first year attending any sort of Con (YAY!). There are so many events in Florida that I seriously had no idea about. I’ve always known about MegaCon and some of the other big ones, but with so many events to choose from I thought it’d be a good (and useful) idea to share about all of the events here in the sunshine state.
Florida Comic Con 2016 List of Events
March 12-13,2016 – Lakeland Fanboy Expo – For those who don’t know where Lakeland is, it’s between Orlando and Tampa. This event has a lot of voice actors as celebrity guests, but will have Verne Troyer, Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and Noah Hathaway aka my childhood love, Atreyu from The Neverending Story. Side note: why promote Verne Troyer as mini-me at a convention instead of, oh I don’t know, Griphook from Harry Potter? The weekend long pass is $50.
April 1-3, 2016 – Collective Con, Jacksonville, FL. I really want to go to this one to meet Robin Lord Taylor, aka Oswald Cobblepot, because I think he’s brilliant on Gotham. Candice Patton from The Flash & Castle will also be there. A 3-day pass is $45, so it’s definitely affordable.
April 16-17, 2016 – Space Coast Nerd Fest, Melbourne, FL. Since it’s the Space Coast there will be a former NASA astronaut guest speaker in addition to some older stars like Ricou Browning and Julie Adams. My other childhood love Dante Basco, aka Ru-Fi-OOOOOOOO, will be there as will Jeremy Palko who plays Andy on The Walking Dead. There’s also going to be a Steampunk Ball. Two-day pass is $30 or if bought in advance, $22.50.
May 26-29, 2016 – MegaCon, Orlando, FL. This will *hopefully* be my first Con ever. I’ve always wanted to go, but never have, so this is the year I’m planning to finally make the jump. They’ve got a fantastic line-up this year so far of celebrity guests including Stan Lee, Christopher Lloyd, Kevin Smith, Hayley Atwel, and more. I’m actually super SUPER pumped to attend this event. The prices vary by day, but for the full 4-day weekend (it’s during the Memorial Day weekend) it’s $95.
July 1-4, 2016 – Florida Supercon, Miami, FL. There’s a lot of celebrity guests for this one and I’m sure more will be announced as it’s still pretty far out. Lots of Star Trek guests, Alex Kingston (River Song), and Natalia Tena (Tonks) are just a few. I’m also really excited about this event because the fabulous Meli of Melificent has asked me to sit on her panel about nerdy fashion. I’m crazy nervous, but really excited about this 🙂 The full weekend ticket is $80.
Aug 5-7. 2016 – Tampa Bay Comic Con, Tampa, FL. There’s such an awesome lineup for this including Norman Reedus, Krysten Ritter, and many others. This is another Con I’m definitely planning to be at as I’ve heard really good things about it. Ticket price is $60 for the whole weekend.
Aug 5-7, 2016 – Wizard World – Comic Con, Orlando, FL. This one is the same weekend as the Tampa Bay one, so I don’t think I’ll be making it, however Wizard World is known to put on some really great Cons. Their celebrity guests haven’t all been announced yet, so I’m excited to see who will be there as they start making that info public. It’s $75 for the weekend ticket.
Oct. 28-30, 2016 JUST ANNOUNCED – MegaCon Tampa. So this was just announced, but oh am I ready. David Tennant will be there, so that’s enough said (as well as Billie Piper, Karl Urban, and Shatner) As I get more details, I’ll be sure to update here.
November 2016 – this is one I’m not sure about, but last year there was MegaCon Fan Days in Orlando in November, so hopefully it happens this year, too.
So there you have it – some of the biggest and best 2016 Florida Comic Con events. I’m really excited to go to my first Con this year and I even get to be on a panel – yay!
What Cons will you or have you gone to this year? Have you ever sat on a panel before?
This is why i miss living in Orlando!! I miss alll the awesome things that happen so close! UGH. Maybe next year I can come down for one!!
I will admit Florida has so much stuff going on – you definitely should come back for a visit and we can get together! 🙂
I’ve gone to the anime Orlando fest (I think that’s what it’s called) in 2014. It was fun, it was my first little con. and in November I went to MegaCon fan days and had a lot of fun walking around! I’ve never been to MegaCon so I’m looking forward to it this year. I would love to go to the south Florida con too (supercon) that’s awesome that you and Meli will be in a panel! If I go I’ll definitely stop by!
Hope to see you at some of the Cons this year 🙂
Wish I still lived back home to meet you at some of these!
If you end up making it down to a Con in FL, let me know 🙂
I’d really like to attend the Con where you’re sitting on the panel and get to meet you. <3 <3 <3 <3
I met Danielle at an event here in Orlando and she is a PEACH!! <3 One of my most favorite nerdy girls in the Sunshine State!
Aww you’re so sweet – us Orlando nerdy girls have to stick together 🙂
Aww I’d love to meet up with you – if you ever come down to FL let me know 🙂
Hooray for Con Season!!! We are getting Kristen Bauer at Honolulu Comic Con this year as well as Summer Glau and Grant Imahara! I really want to attend and meet the trio of them if only for a day. I think a day is all I can get out of the little guy.
I’m so jealous about Ru-Fi-OOOOOOO! Hahah I loved him as a kid! He is a cutie now too as an adult although he most does voice acting.
I hope you’re able to go. As much as I want to do multiple days at the Cons, I’ll probably only get one with my little guy too 🙂
I really wish cons were MORE kid friendly. Like the panels are very hard to ask my son to sit through. I wish there were more kid-oriented things to do. Kids are nerds too and as such there should be fun things for them to do. Like a free space to play or met cosplayer etc you know? I should write about this…..Hahah
Let’s just start a Comic Con for kids!
I have plans to go to MegaCon and I would love to attend that one in Tampa and/or the one in Miami! Rooming for one is always such a challenge!
Let’s carpool! I may be going down solo for the Miami one, so maybe we can get a room together. I’ll keep you posted as I know more details 🙂
You have a busy con season ahead of you! Congrats on the panel, that’s so awesome! Wish I lived closer, I’d totally show up and cheer you on!
Aww thanks <3 I hope I can make it to all of these events!
Oh you get so many Cons! Liverpool has its first Comic Con this weekend and I can’t go 🙁 I’ll have to plan better next year!
Aww…there’s always next year for sure.
So jelly! So many awesome cons! I live in northern Minnesota so I typically have to drive 2-3 hours to reach an [decent] cons
There really is a lot in Florida and I didn’t even include all of the smaller Cons.
I’m so excited to finally meet you AND do the panel together.
I’m crazy nervous too!!!
Definitely go to MegaCon – it’s my favorite Florida con. I had SUCH an amazing time a couple of years ago and hope to go back once Luna is bigger!
I’m glad I’m not the only nervous one – and I’m so excited to meet you too 🙂 I’m still waiting for MegaCon to release Press pass stuff so I can apply for the other blog I write for. I do want to go so badly – the lineup is amazing.
