After wanting a tulle skirt for basically my entire life, I finally bought myself one. As a kid, I wasn’t outwardly girlie because my mom just didn’t really indulge that side of me. She felt shorts and pants were more practical than skirts and dresses, and which although not entirely untrue, still sucked when I wanted to really be a girlie-girl. I bought myself a tulle skirt about a month ago for my birthday thinking it would fit (it didn’t…damn you birthday cake), but now that I’ve lost close to 15 lbs it fits and I was ready to rock it. I decided to put together this geek chic casual tulle skirt outfit to wear this past weekend.

I’ve been anxiously waiting to put this look together and was so happy when it turned out just as awesome in real life as it did in my head. I’m a little obsessed with my Rebel Rebel tee and thought it would be the perfect item to pair with a tulle skirt. Now all I can think about is finding other tees to create more casual tulle skirt outfits. I really like the girliness of a tulle skirt combined with something so standard, like a cotton t-shirt, so I’m hoping to make this a bit of a staple in my life.
It’s funny how since I’ve embraced my nerdy side, I feel so much more comfortable trying other things, too. I know that before I would’ve been too self-conscious to wear a tulle skirt, regardless of how much I might’ve wanted to, because I was afraid people would secretly laugh or snark about it. Now I’m slowly learning to care less what others think and just have fun, and I think this outfit is the perfect embodiment of that for me.
How do you normally style your tees?
