Not many people know this (unless you’ve seen the counters in my bathroom), but I nerd out over skin care and beauty products. It started with my Ipsy subscription and then one of my best friends (heyyyyy, YoungJee) introduced me to the goodness of Korean cosmetics and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Sheet masks, ridiculously cute packaging, and better looking skin have led me to embrace all things K-Beauty. I realize this is not the norm of what I post about (although I would like to start doing some nerdy makeup tutorials and such), but I thought it would be something fun to share so I hope you enjoy 🙂
It’s only been within the last 2 years that I’ve had any sort of consistent skin care routine. While I knew never to use the same soap to wash my face that I washed my derriere with, I had zero clue about all of the different lotions, potions, serums, creams, and all around magical substances that exist to help your skin look good and appear youthful. When I turned 29, I realized I needed to step up my skin care routine if I wanted to keep my nice skin. With the help of my friend, I took to buying all kinds of Korean cosmetics to try. Soon after, I realized that having so many different products wasn’t going to work for me. Skin care routines can be so daunting, even without 27 different products, so I’ve narrowed it down to my daily favorites to share with you.
Korean Cosmetics for an Easy Skin Care Routine
First things first is cleansing. Korean skin care usually uses 2 items for cleansing, a water and an oil based cleanser. Since that’s too much work for me and it’s rare that I wear much makeup, I only use the water cleanser and use Dr.Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Water . This leaves me skin feeling smooth and clean and is gentle enough that it doesn’t sting my eyes or dry out my face. You get a lot of product for the price, too.
In a full skin care routine, a toner would come next, but I skip it. I love using Etude House Moistfull Collagen Lotion. This is an emulsion, which I guess is like an essence (so many products, seriously). This stuff smells wonderful and clean and makes my skin feel tighter, moisturized, and really, really soft.
When I first heard about snail mucin in skin cream, I was kind of grossed out. I read a little more and this seems like the panacea of all beauty ailments, so I gave it a try. I have trouble with dark spots and acne scars, but the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream has quite honestly worked wonders on my skin. Since I have darker skin, acne scars have been on my face FOREVER, but this helped to fade old and new marks. I guess snail slime really is all that (and a bag of chips).
Next up is eyes. Now the TONYMOLY Pandas Dream So Cool Eye Stick is not only serious amounts of cute, but it keeps the skin under my eyes cool and moist. I get really bad dry eyes, which makes the skin underneath my eyes feel dry, too, so I always have this on hand. This helps with brightening and works on wrinkles, too.
That’s my bare bones, minimum on skin care products before I put on some makeup. The Laneige BB Cushion is my holy grail of foundation. It’s light, airy, lasts a long time, and makes my skin look essentially flawless. It comes in a cool compact and you just pat it on and you’re ready to go. This is something I wear everyday, and more often than not, it’s the only thing I wear. It covers up any imperfections, smooths out my skin tone, and makes me look more polished. Plus it’s got SPF.
The TONYMOLY Mini Peach Lip Balm is like Lip Smackers, only 100x better. I love the way this smells and it’s SO CUTE! Basically all of the Tony Moly products have the cutest packaging, but the lipgloss is hands down my favorite. It comes in other flavors like blueberry and cherry, too.
Although I don’t use a sheet mask daily, I do try to do it 2-3 times per week. I have pretty normal skin, so I like to get this variety pack of Tonymoly I’m Real Skin Care Facial Sheet Masks. Sure, I look a little like Michael Myers when I’m wearing it, but my skin always feels great afterwards.
Because I’m not one to discriminate on body parts, feet need love too. Seriously, my feet are dry, like absurdly so. I was totally skeptical the first time I tried this Etude House BeBe Foot Mask, but it is LEGIT! This is a serious treat yo self kind of thing because it takes 60-90 minutes – I usually do this when sitting down for a Netflix marathon. It comes with 2 little booties and you pour the liquid inside then put your feet in and sit. Afterward rinse your feet off and over the next couple of days, all of the dead skin literally just peels off (so gross, but SO good). By the end of the week, my feet were honestly like baby feet. It was crazy, but I swear by this and tell everyone about it.
Hope you enjoyed learning about some of my favorite Korean cosmetics. There really are so many great items out there, but these are my standbys.
Do you have one cosmetic item you swear by?
