I have a confession to make: I LOVE Funkos. I don’t have many, but I want to own all of them. I’m a sucker for all things cute. Long before I even knew what a Funko was, I often found myself checking them out in the stores because who can resist those adorable round eyes that look so sweet, even on a villain. When I started my journey to nerdy, one of the first things I did was give in to the urge to buy a Funko (given that resistance is futile and all that).
There were many Funkos I wanted to buy as my first. I remember standing in Barnes & Noble debating on just who would be the lucky Funko to come home with me. I really wanted Malcolm Reynolds and Wall-E was looking pretty adorable, too, but then I stumbled upon, tiny Dancing Groot.
As soon as I saw him, in his tiny little planter, I knew he had to be mine. Not only is Groot ridiculously awesome and I know all of his lines from the movie (heh), but look at that smiling face. Since he’s a bobblehead (and loves to dance), I felt the best spot for him was in my car.
Now he dances away every time I drive and when the road rage happens to bubble up, I just look at Groot and feel happy instead. He never cringes when I belt out a tune, he just keeps on dancing.
I feel like he’s my driving sidekick and my son will often tell me to turn up the music so Groot will dance more. I’ve since acquired a few (not enough) other Funkos, but Dancing Groot will always have that special place in my heart as the first.
What was your first Funko?
