Great Scott! It’s October 21, 2015 – the day Doc and Marty McFly (and Jennifer) travel to the future!
Are there flying cars? Hoverboards? Sadly no, but today I’m comparing Back to the Future 2015 vs Actual 2015 to see just what they got awesomely wrong, or strangely right.
Not even close. I feel like this is always the quintessential thing that people liked to speculate about in the future, but no flying cars (yet).
I so wish. There have been many (convincingly good) hoaxes, and even speculation that they finally FINALLY have it figured out, but sadly no Hoverboard.
I sure hope everyone has their pockets turned inside out today. Let us not forget our self-lacing kicks (shouldn’t these be out by now, Nike?), auto-drying jackets, and sweet ass Borg-like makeup.
That’s one thing they got right. Café 80’s is like the dining counterpart to our 80’s night at the bar. The 80’s will always be great, always. Music, TV, sideways ponytails – sign me up!
Accurate Weather Forecast
Ha! That’s a definite wrong. I can’t tell you how many times my weather app has told me it was sunny outside, yet I was stuck in a rainstorm. Yet Doc knows the rain will end in approximately 5 seconds thanks to the ever reliable weather service. It’s too bad the Post Office wasn’t quite so reliable then, as Doc states, and is not so reliable now either.
3D Movies and Lots of Sequels
We do have 3D movies and plenty of sequels- Hello, Fast & Furious franchise, Saw movies, and my BELOVED Star Wars (Squee for The Force Awakens). Although they make me feel like I’m going to vomit all over the theater, 3D movies are pretty cool. Still no scenery channel though.
While fax machines are hardly something we even think about any more, googles to answer the phone (Come on, Google Glass) are pretty close and while we don’t talk to our houses to do things, we do talk to our phones thanks to Siri.
Hands Free Video Games
You know what Elijah Woods, using your hands to play a video game IS like using a baby’s toy (I kid, I kid), but they definitely got this one right. Thanks to Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect we can jump, fight, kick, and do all kinds of stuff in our video games without even having to hold a controller.
Well, folks, the future is now! While they got some things right, and many things wrong that I wish were right, 2015 is definitely where it’s at. So here’s to pockets out and flying cars and to whatever the future has in store!
What one Back to the Future thing do you wish had really made it to our 2015?
