Oh Leia, you trendsetter, you. Crown braids are very “in” right now. I’ll just go ahead and give Carrie Fisher credit for that because she’s awesome and was rocking the look a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
Despite the Girlie name in my blog title, there are many typical “girlie” things that I’m decidedly not good at. Hair is a big one. No matter how hard I try to do cool hairstyles, I usually end up with a ponytail instead. Since watching Star Wars, I’ve been itching to do a crown braid, but every tutorial I’ve watched and attempted involved French braiding or some version of it. I cannot French braid to save my life, not to mention it never quite shows up very well on my dark hair. I decided to try a simple way of doing it and voilà, here we have my Hoth Leia crown braid hair tutorial – no French braiding required.
To do, all you need is a brush and some bobby pins…bonus points if wearing a Star Wars shirt 🙂
Brush hair back (so there’s not part) and separate hair into 2 sections – like pig tails and braid.
Loop the braid over the top of your head and pin into place. I’ll admit I wish my hair was a tad longer, as this was really the shortest it could be to do this.
Repeat with the other side. When you pin the second braid up, tuck the ends of each braid under the opposite braid to hide them.
See how easy that was. No French braiding, no weird contortionist style twisting, and best of all my arm didn’t feel like it was going to fall off. It took me just a few minutes to do and I love that it keeps the hair off of my neck. Who knew having such a great do could be so practical while defending the galaxy.
