If there’s one thing I love to do, it’s sing. I may not always do it well, but when I do it, I sing loud and proud. Although I’ve not seen many Broadway shows, I’ve heard the soundtracks and seen many a Broadway adapted movie, so I was pretty excited for this week’s 5 Fandom Friday. Here are my 5 Broadway roles I’d love to play.
Elder Cunningham – Book of Mormon
My friend and I are so incredibly obsessed with Book of Mormon (that’s my birthday card she made me this year). We sing the songs and find everyday references to this show and use them CONSTANTLY. I saw it in January when it came here and I want to see it again and again. Although Andrew Rannells/Elder Price, is my absolute favorite, Elder Cunningham is hilariously awesome and much more my style. Sure I’m not an awkward, white male, but I’d totally make up stories about Ewoks and Boba Fett to get some converts and I’ve had more than my fair share of self doubt.
Glinda Upland – Wicked
Wicked was the first show I ever saw on Broadway and have now seen it twice. Glinda is sassy, loves a good makeover, and is still loyal to her friend at the end of the day. I know when I was younger I had a tendency to judge first and get to know later due to my own insecurities, but thankfully I’ve grown out of that and just as Glinda did, too.
Velma Kelly – Chicago
While I’ve not seen this live, I’ve seen the movie more times than I can count 🙂 Velma is not only gorgeous, but is sarcastic, witty, and knows when to bite her tongue to make nice. She clearly doesn’t put up with any crap as she kills her own sister for sleeping with her husband – fierce! Not to mention who wouldn’t want to be a 20’s starlet?
The Witch – Into the Woods
Another one I haven’t seen, but hooray for movies. I love the Witch (and Meryl Streep made her look GOOD). She may be bad at times, but really she’s just as human (or as human as fairy tale characters can be) as everyone else. She’s just the one you love to hate. I also grew up listening to this soundtrack and singing it with my mom, so this one has good memories for me 🙂
I’m not good, I’m not nice, I’m just right. I’m the witch.
Sophie Sheridan – Mamma Mia
I shamelessly love ABBA songs. They’re so fun and good to sing to, so Mamma Mia had to make the list. Sophie is fun and sweet and gets to marry the man of her dreams. I also love a little digging to find out a family secret.
I’m pretty exciting for some shows coming to Orlando this season, including Kinky Boots! What are some of your Broadway favorite?
