We’ve got a serious love of lightsabers in our house and battling in general. There’s something so satisfying about the humming sound. So while I get the love of the lightsaber, but I’m not a fan of being on the receiving end of a lightsaber attack. We only have one in the house (for now) and somehow I get stuck with the tiny, lame-o, plastic sword while engaging in battle, which just doesn’t hold up well to the lightsaber or do a great protecting me from my 3 year-old Jedi. I figured it was time to even the playing field and make the battles slightly less pain-inflicting by making a DIY pool noodle lightsaber.
DIY Pool Noodle Lightsaber
Putting together a pool noodle lightsaber is easy and the Nugget even got to help.
To begin, get a pool noodle. I knew he’d want the Darth Maul style, double lightsaber, so I bought a red one and we already had a blue one lying around. I had hopes of getting a purple one for myself, but they were sadly out.
For a “regular” sized lightsaber, simply cut a pool noodle in half. I put silver Duct tape over the bottom part where I cut. Wrap the tape around the pool noodle and repeat 2 more times so the tape is covering about 1/4 of the noodle. Then take black tape (I purchased 1 inch) to decorate. I had some circle labels lying around, so I colored them red for buttons and violà, all done. For the double one, I did 7 wraps of the duct tape in the center.
Now we can battle sans physical injuries – the emotional ones may still be there as he seems to enjoy slicing off his mom’s arm, but you know 🙂 These have been a big hit since I made them and I plan to pop some glow sticks inside of them for night time fun as well. Perfect for summertime fun, a DIY pool noodle lightsaber is fun both in and out of the pool.
